Many people opt for a cheap piece of luggage from a discount store or similar as they can get a large suitcase for around $50. The view of these customers is along the lines of "if it only last 1 trip then thats fine, a good quality one would cost at least 3 times as much". This is true but its also true that with luggage you get what you pay for. The components that go into a suitcase such as the material, zippers, trolley system, wheels all increase in quality as the price of the suitcase increases.
The biggest danger in buying a cheap suitcase is that it will fail mid journey, if the zip fails you could find your belongings strewn across an airport carousel, if the wheels break you will end up carrying a heavy bag.
